This has driven me bonkers for so long I basically refuse to use Firefox unless I absolutely have to. In windows to go back one page you use the backspace key and you go back one page in history for the active tab. Now I never use windows, but I do prefer this behavior over a two key combination. (except when your in a flash interface because it never functions as a backspace character it always returns you back one page.. GRRR)In Konqueror, my browser of choice, this does not function as "back one page" but like all things in KDE you can easily change this behavior which I do everytime I build a new system or am required to. In Firefox we used to be able to change this behavior but at some point either the way we did this changed or it completely went away, not really sure which. Well I just found it in Firefox 3.03 and couldnt be happier!
To change the default behavior of the backspace key open up the browser and in the address bar type about:config then in the search just look for backspace. You should see the setting as browser.backspace_action with a integer value of 2, change it to 0 and your all done, not as simple as it is in Konqueror but that is a totally different ball of mud which I do not care to address.
